Cronyism: Liberty versus Power in Early America (2021)
I argue that the Liberty versus Power framework explains the evolution of cronyism (special interest legislation). Cronyism increased when supporters of government power, such as the Hamiltonians and National Republicans, were in control. When Jeffersonian proponents of liberty seized the reins of government they reduced cronyism. However, they soon became corrupted by power and began to enact their own crony policies. |

Conceived in Liberty, Volume V: The New Republic, 1784-1791 by Murray Rothbard (edited by Patrick Newman, 2019)
Link to book Link to purchase Murray Rothbard's long lost fifth volume of his series on early American history. In this book, Rothbard documents the Federalist coup d'état in the 1780s which led to the drafting and ratification of the U.S. Constitution. The U.S. Constitution was a staunchly nationalist document that increased federal government power at the expense of the people and the states. |

The Progressive Era, by Murray Rothbard (edited by Patrick Newman, 2017)
Link to book Link to purchase Murray Rothbard's unfinished manuscript and published essays on the Progressive Era. In the unpublished manuscript Rothbard discusses historical events from the development of the Interstate Commerce Commission through the presidential administration of Theodore Roosevelt. In the later essays Rothbard documents the rise of the welfare state, the Federal Reserve, and government intervention during World War I. |
